Shadows on the Wall

[dry hoarse voice] [sleepy] The candlelight flickers, shadows on the wall. I'm staring at nothing, but I see it all. [deep nasal breath][pause] [remorseful whisper] Rain taps the window, like a distant call, I'm lost in the rhythm, I'm caught in the fall. [painful] [slow] Once, you were my everything, my summer turned to spring, But now, the leaves are falling, fast as this worn-out ring [desperate] [pensive] Slips from my finger, hits the ground — a hollow sound, Echoes in this empty room where once love was found. [Building intensity] Why did we promise forever in whispers and in the dark? Now I'm singing to shadows, nursing a broken heart. Your words were like music, now they're a silent mark, Left in the corners of my mind, tearing me apart. [pause] [breath] [softer] Do you remember, love, the fire we lit with just a spark? Or how we danced inside the blaze, unafraid of the stark? But fires burn out, and now I'm sitting in the dark, Holding onto memories, like they're sacred art. [Crescendo, then dropping back to a whisper] So here's my soliloquy, under the quivering light, A man, his guitar, and his shadows tonight. Playing chords to the past, to love that was cast, Into the deep sea of what used to be. [Ending, fading out] If tomorrow I wake, and the shadows remain, I'll keep singing my pain, like a soft, drizzling rain, Hoping one day, the sun will break through, Love will return in a form that’s new, But till then, it’s just me and these shadows on the wall.
