She gazed afar across the seas profound, Where ships with blackened sails would swiftly roam, Today she sees him, sees him all around, Her longing ready, he becomes her home. As on her elbows' lean, she'd dream and sigh, Her temples wrought with thoughts of him so dear, Her heart and soul with longing did comply, And he, in weeks of watching, grew more near. And as he lit the night with lively flame, Towards the dark castle his sight did aim. *. And step by step, he followed in her trace, Into her chamber, where with sparkles bright, He wove with subtle beams a web of grace, And when in bed she lay, all straight and right. He'd touch her hands upon her gentle breast, And close her eyes with sweet and soft caress, And from the mirror's light, upon her crest, It flowed upon her form, and did impress. She'd gaze at him with smile, so pure and true, He'd tremble in the mirror's mirrored view, For in her soul, a deep desire grew, To bind him close and make their love accrue. And speaking to him thus, within her dreams, She sighed so deeply, "O my night's dear lord, Why dost thou not descend, the fault it seems, Come down, O Evening Star, with love outpoured! Descend, O gentle star, so bright and kind, Upon a ray of light so swift descend, Within my house and in my thoughts enshrined, Illuminate my life, my faithful friend!" He listened, trembling, to her fervent plea, His light did shine with even greater plea, And like a flash, he hurled so mightily, And plunged into the sea so swiftly free. The water where he fell did spin and twirl, In circles vast, it tossed upon the sea, And from depths unknown, there came a gallant whirl, A noble youth, emerging swift and free. He lightly passed as if upon a gate, Upon the window's edge, he'd sit and wait, And held within his hand, a wand so great, With reeds encircling, crowned with glowing state. He seemed a youthful prince with golden hair, A vestment 'round his shoulders, bare and fair, And in the shadow of the maiden's glare, A dead man fair, with eyes so full of flare. "From sphere to sphere, I've come with great ado, To heed your call and come to gaze on you, For heaven's realm is where I've traveled through, My mother's sea, my father's heaven blue. To your abode, I've come with light so clear, To gaze upon you closely, ever near, I've come with all my brightness shining here, And you shall be my bride, without a peer.
