Offspring of Abraham, His servant so bold,Jacob’s descendants, part of the fold.Chosen and cherished, a covenant stated,Through ages preserved, forever celebrated.
He remembers His promise, everlasting, profound,To Abraham’s seed, where blessings abound.A pact made in faith, as vast as the skies,To his descendants, a land where their hope lies.
When they were but few, and wanderers all,From nation to nation, they’d heed the call.No one to oppress them, He commanded a plea,“Touch not my anointed, harm not my decree.”
He called down a famine, tested their frames,Sent Joseph ahead, sold to break chains.His feet in shackles, his life in the pit,Till what he foretold by wisdom did fit.
Then unto Egypt, sent by a king,Joseph’s insight a saving thing.Made lord of his house, ruler of lands,Pharaoh’s own scepter placed in his hands.
Israel also came to Egypt then,Jacob sojourned in Ham’s den.God made His people exceedingly fruitful,In the midst of their foes, He made them fruitful.
He turned their hearts to hate His kin,To deal with his servants with a cunning grin.But Moses His servant, Aaron to command,Brought signs from above with a strong hand.
Darkness and light, frogs on the rise,Plagues strike Egypt to no surprise.He spoke, locusts swarmed, hailstones as bread,Pharaoh’s heart stubborn, his spirit misled.
Brought out with silver and gold in their hands,Among their tribes, not one did stand.Egypt was glad when they departed,For fear of them had left them brokenhearted.
Spread a cloud to cover, fire to light the night,Opened rocks in the desert, waters did fight.From heavenly bread to quenching deep thirst,In desolation, His care was dispersed.
He led them with a secure hand,Through feared lands, to the promised land.Nations He conquered, inheritance measured,That they might observe His statutes, treasured.
For He remembered His sacred promise,And Abraham His trusted novice.So He brought forth His people with joy,And his chosen ones with gladness, He did not toy!
