Time - a monologue

[female monologue] Time - that relentless force that marches on, indifferent to the whims of man. It's the silent observer of our lives, the keeper of our secrets, and the ultimate judge of our deeds. We chase it, we beg for more of it, yet it slips through our fingers like grains of sand. [break] As I stand here, watching the seconds tick away, I can't help but marvel at time's impartiality. It doesn't care for status or wealth; it treats the beggar and the king with equal disregard. It's the great equalizer, the one thing we all share, yet experience so differently. [break] We're all bound by time's unyielding grip, prisoners to its cyclical nature. We wake, we work, we rest, all in accordance with time's dictates. But what is time, really? Is it the numbers that flash on our screens, the pages that turn on our calendars, or is it something more profound? [break] Perhaps time is just a construct, a way for us to make sense of this chaotic existence. We measure it, segment it, and sell it, but do we truly understand it? Time heals, they say, but it also erodes, wears down the sharpest of edges and dims the brightest of lights.
