Heaven or Hell Summer In a way, I’ve taken the summer off. Like everything has gone on hold more or less, and for the most part, I’ve just played. I don’t like summer, in that the heat is so intense in the desert where I live, and for about three months it’s like living in a gigantic kitchen, where I constantly travel between a colossal hot oven, and a huge refrigerator. I’ve dealt with a few episodes of should and should nots, shoulding on myself because it didn’t seem as though I was accomplishing my intent, but I felt value fulfilled, so I shouldn’t worry about it. And I can travel between should and shouldn’t exactly the way I travel between the oven and refrigerator climate. And I noticed that head space is a climate all it’s own. So while I was traveling, looking different places over, I was noticing how similar they really are. Like every mall in America is the same, with the same stores , with the same sales, with the same salespeople. Gas stations are alike, convenience stores are alike, fast food places, restaurants, grocery stores, and airports. Like I shopped at Wal Mart in Barstow, for God’s sake, which was fun, but Wal Mart is Wal Mart where ever you go, and if they’re out of it in Washington, you can run over to Alabama, and they’ll probably have it there on discount. In a way I think, for the most part, waking reality is just one big Wal Mart. Some people work there, and some have easy jobs, like that greeter always goin’ “Hello, how ya doing? (Insert ya’ll if in the south). And Wal Mart has almost everything now, including groceries, they just need to add apartments. I know we spend millions on government surveys, but I’ve never seen a survey on what percentage of time the average American, between the ages of 5 and 85, in all manner of classes, spends pushing a shopping cart with one bad wheel. (Insert colored piechart.) And it seemed to me, that no matter where I went, I was still in the city of Wal Mart. Not that Wal Mart isn’t a pretty cool place to be, it is. It’s the closest thing to heaven that I know of. And it is so very non-denominational, like there is no judgment at Wal Mart, but there could be a Saint Peter if you want to take a different viewpoint of that greeter. But everybody gets in, and everybody gets a shopping cart. I’ve never heard of anyone being stopped at the door with, “NO, you can’t come in, you’ve sinned. You need to go over to Purgatory Mart.” And everybody, in every Wal Mart in America looks alike. And that is a strange thing to notice. I mean they are different people obviously, but because my relationship with them is the same, they carry a similar quality. That is in like if you have problems with relationships in one city, and you move to another city to start fresh, pretty soon the people you are dealing with will begin to seem exactly like the people in the old city. They are different people obviously, but the relationship carries a quality that is similar. And the challenges we present ourselves with in life cannot be distanced by moving to another space. So I think it has something to do with being in heaven in the space your in, no matter where it be. Because wherever you be physically, you are always in the same head space. So it’s important to be able to adjust the climate control. I could be in Hawaii in my own backyard, if I just adjust my head climate control. Because I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that the Wal Mart in Hawaii looks exactly like the one down the street from me. And perhaps the greeter will be a little different, but it’s like the Jack in the Box clown with a hula skirt, it does have a similar quality. And now I’m getting the feeling that I’m just making this all up as I go along. I am. But then, so are you.
