The first explorer to find Nevada was a Spanish friar named Francisco Garcés in the 1700s. Later, in 1848, Nevada became a state in the U.S. after the Mexican-American War as the 36th state. Years after, in 1859, a lot of silver was discovered in Nevada called the Comstock Lode, which led to dozens of miners hoping to get rich. In Nevada, summer temperatures are normally around 90℉, and winter temperatures are usually about 50℉. Because of the high temperatures & the Pacific Ocean not really reaching the land due to the terrain, that makes Nevada the driest state in America. It could also be dry from the rainfall, commonly being seven inches a year. But somehow, it’s very normal for snow to appear, the percentage of snow up to 94%, like in Lake Tahoe. The natural disasters that can happen in Nevada are flooding, landslides, mudslides, earthquakes, and tornados. The largest earthquake in Nevada history is the Pleasant Valley Earthquake on October 2, 1915. A lot of houses and buildings were destroyed, but luckily, no one died. Another severe incident of a natural disaster in Nevada history is the 1999 Las Vegas flood on July 8, 1999 which led to 2 people dying, 353 homes destroyed, and $20.5 million worth of damage.
