The Doe's Grief

[Verse 1] The gnarled wood Hides a peaceful meadow In the aberrant flowers Stands a wide-eyed doe. She searches the land For her precious fawn She told him to lay low But when she returned, he was gone. [Verse 2] For on that moonlit night While she went out to roam, A hungry wolf prowled And made the meadow home. He robbed her of her motherhood, Left sorrow in his wake Now the mother doe's heart did petrify and break, but [Verse 3] Through fields and valleys She runs away with all her might Won't accept the doubtless truth, Her feet pound the earth so light She follows the scent, The lingering trace, Hoping to find Her fawn's sweet face before the break of daylight.
