Freedom from Battle

This new home that I have been given, A place against which I once was risen. A mistake was made, but not my own, The council decreed it, and now it's known. Freedom is mine to earn as in the past I yearned, For my place, due to my past, I have already learned. A commander in arms, no longer just a soldier, Lives I will take, but those I'll save makes me bolder. For neither side finds battle's face be pretty, But at least on this side, we'll show pity. Your sons and daughters will be safe, As long as in battle we do not face. These people I'll call friends, a family made, We fight for our people in this raid. All we ask for is our freedom and to feel at home, To no longer live in fear—why can't this king leave us alone? For the blood I was made to shed, he shall now see it all, To gain our peace, it's his castle's walls that will fall. Though shadows of my past still loom large, I strive to lead, to be in charge. No longer bound by deceit and lies, I fight for truth beneath open skies. For every tear and every scar, We aim to heal, to raise the bar.
