Lyrics
Verse 1: Origins and Early Expansion (1299-1453)
(Instrumental intro with oud and darbuka)
Osman rose in Anatolia’s land,
A principality, small but grand,
Bursa’s walls fell to his might,
Expanding far, a future bright.
In thirteen fifty-four, they crossed the sea,
Balkans fell to their destiny,
Moved to Edirne, power’s sign,
Growing empire, in rapid time.
Small beylik turned to a grand domain,
Strength and strategy were their main,
With alliances, they did grow,
From Asia’s heart to Europe’s flow.
By thirteen sixty-nine, their might was known,
A mighty force, seeds were sown,
A rising star in history’s night,
Ottoman power, shining bright.
Chorus
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
Verse 2: Conquest of Constantinople (1453-1520)
Mehmed stormed Constantinople’s gate,
Fourteen fifty-three sealed their fate,
Byzantine’s end, Istanbul’s birth,
Controlled the trade, proved their worth.
Under Selim, they did expand,
Egypt, Syria, Hejaz lands,
East and South, their reach was vast,
An empire’s power, built to last.
Control of trade routes, wealth in hand,
Ottoman dominance in the land,
Mosques and bazaars, culture bloomed,
In Istanbul, fortunes loomed.
Byzantine’s fall, a new dawn’s rise,
Mehmed’s legacy never dies,
A pivotal point in their grand quest,
Ottoman glory, put to the test.
Chorus
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
Bridge
(Instrumental break with electronic beats and oud melody)
Suleiman, Magnificent reign,
Laws were reformed, culture gained,
Arts and science, they did bloom,
Golden age, avoided gloom.
Verse 3: Golden Age under Suleiman (1520-1566)
Suleiman led with a mighty hand,
Belgrade, Rhodes, and Hungary’s land,
Vienna’s walls, he could not breach,
Yet his laws, justice did teach.
“Lawgiver,” his title earned,
In culture’s fire, bright he burned,
Literature, architecture soared,
An era of peace, they all adored.
Poetry, music, and grand designs,
Mosques and palaces, arts refined,
Suleiman’s court, a beacon bright,
In justice, culture, shining light.
Diplomacy and might combined,
Ottoman glory, well-defined,
From the Adriatic to Persia’s door,
Suleiman’s empire, legends pour.
Chorus
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
Verse 4: Stagnation and Decline (1566-1807)
After Suleiman, decline began,
Lepanto’s loss, a sinking plan,
Corruption grew, economy weak,
Provincial power, central’s defeat.
Influx of silver from the West,
Inflation rose, industries stressed,
Weak sultans, struggles within,
Slow decline, an empire’s sin.
Janissaries, once elite, now weak,
Internal strife, reforms they seek,
Trade routes shifting, wealth did drain,
An empire’s glory starts to wane.
Military losses, morale fell,
Ottoman strength, a shadow’s spell,
From greatness, slow decay took hold,
A story of riches, now retold.
Chorus
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
Verse 5: Modernization and End (1807-1922)
Tanzimat reforms, hope to restore,
Centralize and modernize more,
New laws, schools, and railways laid,
Still, the empire continued to fade.
Balkan wars, territories lost,
World War One came at great cost,
Allied forces, partitioned the land,
End of an era, close at hand.
Young Turks tried to revive the state,
Modern ideas, but it was late,
The Great War sealed the Ottoman fate,
A new republic, Turkish gate.
Sultanate ended, caliphate gone,
Atatürk led, a new dawn,
Modern Turkey rose from the past,
Ottoman legacy, vast and vast.
Chorus
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
Outro
Though the empire’s gone, legacy stays,
In cultures, laws, countless ways,
Ottoman history, rich and vast,
Leaves a shadow from the past.
Chorus (Reprise)
Empires rise, and empires fall,
Ottomans stood so proud and tall,
From East to West, they made their call,
In history’s shadow, we recall.
(Outro with repeating “Empires rise, and empires fall” fading out)
