Born to Protest

In such an age I dwelt on this earth, where the poet too merely listened and waited, perhaps to speak again. Poets perish in this age, only the sky falls upon us, not indicating our heap of dust, but one or two of our verses, if they remain. I was born, I protested; I was born, I protested; Yet, here I am! Yet here I am! I grew up, I persisted; I grew up, I persisted; I persisted, here I am! I persisted, here I am! I already know, I will also die, the fruit sways, falls when ripe, the deep, memory-filled earth soothes… But let the smoke of your anger rise to the sky! I write therefore, and live amidst this wild world, like That oak there lives: Knows it will be cut down, and waits.
