Shadows of Jealousy

A shadow creeping into the depths of the heart, Its voice whispers softly. The brighter others' happiness shines, The deeper and darker the shadow grows. Hidden behind a smiling face, Lurks the poison within the chest. Admiring beautiful things, Lamenting that they are not one's own. Eyes of envy grow cloudy, A mirror that distorts the truth. Everything seen turns to poison, Corroding the heart. Others' success turns to pain, Loved ones drift away. The flames of jealousy spread, Leaving cold hatred behind. A friend's smile looks like an enemy's, Fearing even to come close. Burning out in loneliness, That heart is destroyed. A soul bound by chains of jealousy, Cries out for freedom. But that cry is in vain, Disappearing into the darkness. What awaits at the end of this path, A future shrouded in jealousy’s shadow. To reclaim the light, One must cast off that shadow.
