Anointed and Lost

Verse 1: (Saul’s Voice) I never wanted the crown, never sought the throne, But the people cried out, “We need a king of our own.” Samuel warned ‘em, “Kings’ll take what’s yours, Your sons, your daughters, and the best of your stores.” But God told Samuel, “They’re not rejecting you,” So he poured the oil, and my path was set anew. Verse 2: (Saul’s Voice) The sacrifice was waitin’, but Samuel wasn’t near, The enemy was marchin’, and I was gripped with fear. So I made the offering, without prophet or priest, Samuel arrived, his heart heavy with grief. Jonathan, my son, found honey on the ground, Didn’t hear my words, but the people gathered ’round. They saw the truth, knew my vow was wrong, But my pride held firm, couldn’t right the wrong. Verse 4: (Saul’s Voice) The last straw came with the sheep’s bleatin’ sound, Samuel asked, “What’s this echoin’ around?” God said, “Destroy,” but I kept the spoils in hand, Spared Agag’s life, defied the command.
