As a little boy I learned the subtle joy Of poetry Saw the colors on the wall Light that shined through a head too small For the words that flowed like poetry Soon the music came to me Like a thunder breaking free But I knew much less than my poetry Choices come in the blink of an eye You might wonder why I'm not the guy Who writes poetry Sooner than my father thought I learned to speak from the book he bought In college - it wasn't poetry Pixels painted on a screen Words that showed in black and green Felt like poetry Now I'm old at forty three The music never came to me Like the poetry Still each song that's in my heart Yearns to see it's very start More than poetry Tried in vain to write the notes Something that would make me float Like my poetry Then the wonder I have found Let's your song sing from the sound Of poetry Tried in vain to write the notes Something that would make me float Like my poetry Then the wonder I have found Let's your song sing from the sound Of poetry It isn't right and very wrong To have a system sing your song And poetry But now I feel my soul break free The songs I only dreamed could be Are now right there in front of me It's my new poetry It's my new poetry It's my new poetry
