Old herdsman's song

Quietly sunset was falling on plain. My way is so far - I can't pass, I can't sing. I know they'll come and lift me from the ground - Horses that carried my heart to the clouds. Free herd was carrying me to the pass, The plains and the night were open to us, Flames of the bonfire soared to the stars, The flute was still singing, pure and bright. Wind carried away all voices and names. Drowned out my call with its roar the war - Not feeling the bits, not knowing fear, Fell those who did not themselves spare. There were lights in their dark eyes - Nights here have become like a days. Lightnings exploded in scarlet hidden death. There was deepest silent for years for this earth. The old man's eyes were like pearls white. Flute sings, so pure and light. Tears on the skin like Tree sap on the bark. In sky running horses And earth now in peace. Wind wove into feather grass its song, Those whom I called heard my call. Those whose feet cannot touch the ground, With the herd they took away my soul.
