Lyrics
**Title: To honor a person means to respect his will**
Verse 1:
To honor a person means to respect his will,
And so it is to honor a father and mother still.
If this were not so, the righteous would transgress,
For a father and mother’s demands one cannot suppress.
Chorus:
Good for the God-fearing, to forego their honor’s claim,
So their children won't be punished, preserving their name.
Like Rabbi Huna who tested with silk and grace,
Setting aside his honor, so anger had no place.
Verse 2:
His parents offer drink, their hands extend the cup,
Numerous are the services, they can’t give up.
A man cannot avoid what’s asked by those dear,
So to honor their will, we hold them near.
Chorus:
Good for the God-fearing, to forego their honor’s claim,
So their children won't be punished, preserving their name.
Like Rabbi Huna who tested with silk and grace,
Setting aside his honor, so anger had no place.
Bridge:
Forego the “demands of their honor,” without children’s sight,
So they won’t be punished, in doing what’s right.
Rabbi Huna showed wisdom, setting honor apart,
Teaching us mercy, from a loving heart.
Verse 3:
In the presence of his son, he tore the silk apart,
To see if anger would rise from the heart.
But he set aside his honor, before the act began,
Teaching restraint, for every woman and man.
Chorus:
Good for the God-fearing, to forego their honor’s claim,
So their children won't be punished, preserving their name.
Like Rabbi Huna who tested with silk and grace,
Setting aside his honor, so anger had no place.
Outro:
To honor and respect, the lesson clear and bright,
Foregoing demands of honor, to do what is right.
A father’s love, a mother’s grace,
In every heart, in every place.
