I'm Just a Bill

[Verse 1] I'm but a bill, a simple, solitary bill, And I'm waiting here on Capitol Hill. Long is the journey to this bustling city, A longer wait in a decisive committee. I dream of being a law someday, Praying, hoping, lingering at bay, But today, I remain a simple bill. [Chorus] Gee, Bill, your patience and courage are as vast as the sea, You have journeyed so far, from an idea to being free. [Verse 2] It started in a small town, a simple thought, Transformed into a law, a fight hard-fought. A local congressman heard the plea: “There ought to be a law,” voices in harmony, An idea took shape; a bill was born, Sailing through Congress, weathered and worn, Hoping and praying to become a law, But today I remain, just a simple bill. [Chorus] I'm just a bill, yes, a humble bill, Stuck amidst debate on Capitol Hill. Waiting in committee, as Congressmen decide, Will I move forward, or in the pages, will I hide? [Bridge] Listen to the Congressmen, engrossed in heated quarrel, Is the cause of dispute my mortal peril? Most bills never reach this destiny, But I remain hopeful, despite the jeopardy.
